“Not afraid of love”, the glorious achievements of MAURIZIO CATTELAN for exhibition at Monnaie de Paris

October 31, 2016

Five years later, Cattelan comes back to work. He chose Monnaie de Paris for his most important exhibition in Europe, and the largest one since his retrospective in New York.
Curated by Chiara Parisi, this exhibition is “deeply” inhabited by the artist. A selection of artworks, those ones whose images remain forever in our mind, will be displayed in the 18th century salons of Monnaie de Paris.
“This exhibition is truly the first one, after the guggenheim exhibition, that brings together more than three works by me at the same time”, Cattelan says about ‘not afraid of love’ on designboom.“It’s a special edition of the things I did before retiring. Let’s say that it’s a post requiem exhibition like a poem story, I seem to be dead but I can still see and listen to everything around me”.
“My pieces are less funny than they seem”, Cattelan explains, on designboom “I have been labeled as funny since my early days, but I am much more serious than people think, and am less ironic than my reputation would have you believe. What might have looked like a joke in the past seems more serious today”.
