New York native artist skillfully uses graphite and ink to create so amazing paintings

December 19, 2016

Zoe keller is an illustrator exploring the intersection of artwork, activism, and the natural sciences. She is good at using graphite and ink to create very detailed drawings that blend hints of narrative with images from the natural world.
The New York native artist is currently based in Portland, Oregon, where she devotes most of her time drawing in her small home studio. She uses her memories of the time spent in forests and on shores across the midwest and northeast to transform them into magnificent pieces of art.
“In the summer and fall of 2014, Zoe collaborated with illustrator Christina Mrozik on a series of illustrations that the two artists gathered in the book Intricacies, published through a successful Kickstarter campaign in January of 2015.
“From 2015 - 2016, Zoe illustrated two coloring books for Timber Press, a publisher based in Portland, Oregon. Color the Natural World, released in November 2015, and Color the Pacific Northwest, released in June 2016”, said the site of Zoekeller.
Beautifuldecay also supported that “her drawings have a lithographic feel, allowing them to act as a part of the classical tradition of drawing as documentation. Her images clearly pay homage to the vintage botanical drawings once used before the days of photography. Painstakingly detailed, yet simultaneously fun and carefree, her images have an almost fairytale quality. Keller’s work is undoubtedly endearing and her craftsmanship undeniably elaborate”.
