“I primarily create my art with a ballpoint pen, though I also use micron pen and graphite from time to time”

Since she first put pencil to paper as child, the self-employed artist Caitlin Hackett has been attracted to natural science and fairy tale illustrations, and she has been often inspired by current environmental issues pollution, deforestation, species extinction, oil spills, poaching and over hunting, the use of animals as test subjects in medical and cosmetic labs, etc.
As a matter of fact, she did not intend to be a professional artist; since her childhood, she wanted to be wildlife biologist.
However, after earning her BFA in 2009 at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY, she gathered her personal inspiration, dreams, imagination and memories to illustrate in her pieces of art.
“My work alludes to the boundaries that separate humans from animals both physically and metaphysically, and the way in which these boundaries are warped by science, mythology, and religion alike”, she said on her website.
